The 458 SOCOM has now been around for almost 15 years and has gained popularity in both hunting and tactical communities. It works well with relativity light 300 grain bullets, driving them in the 1800-2000fps range and as a suppressed platform launching 500 grain bullets at sub sonic velocities. We have built a few tactical rifles; however we have built several for hunters, me included! For hunting hogs or deer and elk in thick timber it is a hard platform to beat. The best part is that you have a light handy, quick shooting rifle in a M4 configuration that hits like the hammer of Thor. One thing you will find when shooting game animals with the 458 SOCOM is that if you do your part, it will drop them like a poll ax and if you should have a marginal shot there is guaranteed to be a massive blood trail to follow.
